It is our responsibility as pet owners, to know, understand, and abide by all laws and ordinances that apply to pet ownership.  Each city has different municipal codes that reference animals within city limits.  To find the ordinances that pertain to your city, please tap/click on the link below which corresponds to the city in which you live.  For Santa Paula residents, please contact the Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) at (805) 525-8609 or visit www.santapaulaarc.org.  For Thousand Oaks residents, please contact Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control (Agoura Animal Shelter) at (818) 991-0071.

*Simi Valley Residents:  Please tap/click here to view the latest City Ordinance amendments which have not yet made it onto the Municode platform.

There are two (2) noteable ordinances that we would like to highlight.  The Rooster Ordinance and the Pets For Vets Act.

Rooster Ordinance Information

The purpose of this ordinance is to curtail the barbaric and inhumane “sport” of cockfighting.  This ordinance allows for residents to keep up to four (4) roosters on any parcel within the County of Ventura. Exceptions can be made for legitimate poultry fanciers and youth involved in educational projects.  There is a limit of four (4) roosters of the same breed for a maximum of twenty-five (25) roosters. Each individual rooster beyond the rooster limit constitutes a separate violation. VCO §§4494.3(c)

Pets For Vets Act (Senate Bill 245)

Ventura County Animal Services is honored to support the Pets For Vets legislation as we are grateful to those who have served our country.  While this bill waives adoption fees for veterans with the below mentioned designation on official California idenfitication, it does not cover the cost of a pet license.  If you, or anyone in your party, suffers from PTSD or any other condition which would make it difficult to be in proximity to loud noises, please contact our staff prior to arrival.  We can confidentially arrange for a quiet area to meet the animals you are interested in.
